Think all those dairy cow statistics and abuse videos are isolated incidents?Think because you like cheese so much that it really doesn’t hurt anything?
The above picture is the amount of milk that a low-volume Starbucks goes through on a slow day. How do I know? I took this picture while doing our nightly milk run. We have a very low-volume store, especially in comparison to Starbucks in metropolitan areas.
Let’s put this into perspective for a second. A gallon of milk weighs about 8.5 lbs. On average a dairy cow will produce a little more than 20,000 lbs per year. Per cow, that’s ~2353 gallons of milk. That’s 6.4 gallons of milk, per dairy cow a day.
In the picture, there’s about 30 gallons of milk.  That’s per day in one Starbucks, not to mention the amount that are still in the Target being sold to customers. Using Starbucks alone as an example, there’s over 7,000 in the US alone. Using my stores numbers as an average, that’s 210,000 gallons of milk a day in Starbucks in the US.
That means that there are 32,813 dairy cows being milked for Starbucks ALONE. Keep in mind this doesn’t take into account things like Half&Half, or Heavy Cream. This is ONLY the milk for lattes used in a day. Now factor in the fact that this Starbucks is in a Target, which also sells milk to general consumers.  Now think of every other coffee shop, grocery store, cheese shop, ice cream shop - adjust accordingly.
Now think about the amount of veal calves that are produced because of this.
Keep in mind, it’s no different when you buy from “local, humane, free range” milk, because as much grass vs grain they feed their cattle, they still have to produce by the gallon, and sell it en masse.
Dairy is torture. Cut the shit, go vegan.

Poison Planet - Oblivious

Check out Poison Planet, a vegan straight edge hardcore/punk band from Chicago, IL.

Seriously one of the best sets I’ve seen in a long time. It’s always awesome to see bands that are as passionate about their message as they are about their music. It’s bands like this that make me fall in love with hardcore all over again.

Banana Almond Butter Oatmeal
I made some delicious Almond Butter the other day, and have been wanting to use it in oatmeal. Combining banana with the almond butter was a no-brainer, but adding cinnamon really took it to the next level.
